Glaze

Glazes are used to decorate ceramic pieces.  Your brush on at least two coats before firing in the kiln. The heat creates some type of chemical reaction that changes the final look of the glaze, sometimes the color. A vast majority of glazes have a shiny look after firing. It can be used to seal ceramic pieces but its main purpose is give it that finishing look.

Al Wei Wei is a a Chinese artist most famous for his contemporary work. He takes old pots and is able to refurbish them into more modern pieces of ceramics. His work is displayed in an art gallery with a picture of himself dropping his own ceramic pot. I find his pieces very interesting because they put a modern twist on an older piece of art.

Terracotta Warriors

This is a re-do on an a terracotta warrior, with bright colors. Roughly 700,000 workers created the terracotta figures for the Emperor and each soldier has its own unique facial expression. It is very fined detailed in my opinion and found very interesting that there is a story behind all these warrior at the time of Qin Shin Huang.
