Maria Longworth Nichols




Maria Longworth Nichols founded Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1900 she won a gold medal at the Universelle Exposition for her paintings on bronze medium. This ceramic plate is beautiful, the medium used for it is paint and glazed earthenware. This is a very unique piece and I love how Maria Longworth Nichols made the fish the focal point.

Al Wei Wei is a a Chinese artist most famous for his contemporary work. He takes old pots and is able to refurbish them into more modern pieces of ceramics. His work is displayed in an art gallery with a picture of himself dropping his own ceramic pot. I find his pieces very interesting because they put a modern twist on an older piece of art.

Terracotta Warriors

This is a re-do on an a terracotta warrior, with bright colors. Roughly 700,000 workers created the terracotta figures for the Emperor and each soldier has its own unique facial expression. It is very fined detailed in my opinion and found very interesting that there is a story behind all these warrior at the time of Qin Shin Huang.
