Ai Weiwei, a contemporary artist from China known for his political activism, restaged that photo to draw attention to the plight of the Syrian migrants. He stated, "Refugee issue is not a local or regional issue. It’s a human rights issue, it’s about fundamental values which touch everybody . . . Refugee is not someone who’s not fortunate. If someone is unfortunate that means we are all unfortunate. We have to always think as one.” The picture above created by Ai Weiwei is a reminder of this sad event and the larger refugee crisis.
