Ethel Smyth at The Dinner Party
Ethel Smyth place represent her role as both musician and activist for women's rights incorporated musical motifs. This plate is created as a grand piano complete with a raised lid, and painted keys. I liked the pockets on the front which are a reference to not only men's suit coats but also over-sized pockets worn by women to carry items in the 19th century. I always had a interest in music, and played violin for quite some time so this plate is a remembrance of my childhood and how music became an important factor in my life.
