Robert Arneson

Robert Arneson was an American sculptor and professor of ceramics in the Art department at UC Davis for nearly three decades. He is considered the father of Funk Art, the antiestablishment movement that incorporated a melange of found objects, autobiographical subjects, and humor. I chose this ceramic piece because I found it very interesting. He took the time to put a human head on an animals body. These is a very detailed piece of art especially in the face features. It is called "Bowee Wowee" he put his head on a dog to represent himself "in the dog house." It is a response to the rejection of Arneson's tour-de-force, Portrait of George, that was rejected by the San Francisco Art Commission. This is a witty and funny portrayal of himself.
