Maria Longworth Post


I found this piece by Maria Longworth Nichols.  My favorite part of this piece is the texture that was used.  The grapes and the vines appear to pop out of the pot.  In addition, each grape leaf looks like it can be felt separately.  I also found it interesting how the body of the pot resembles tree bark with streaks going up and down.  Overall this is a very nice piece that contained very detailed texture.

Al Wei Wei is a a Chinese artist most famous for his contemporary work. He takes old pots and is able to refurbish them into more modern pieces of ceramics. His work is displayed in an art gallery with a picture of himself dropping his own ceramic pot. I find his pieces very interesting because they put a modern twist on an older piece of art.

Terracotta Warriors

This is a re-do on an a terracotta warrior, with bright colors. Roughly 700,000 workers created the terracotta figures for the Emperor and each soldier has its own unique facial expression. It is very fined detailed in my opinion and found very interesting that there is a story behind all these warrior at the time of Qin Shin Huang.
